Meet Franzi and Jona

Franzi and Jona, grew up in the north-western part of Germany were born in the mid-eighties. Franzi (aprofessional photographer) and Jona (carpenter) both spontaneously quit their jobs in 2012 and started a 5-year long journey around the globe.

After starting to explore the world by foot (New Zealand, India, Nepal) and getting increasingly frustrated by the slower pace they switched to bikes and continued to travel the area from Iran to Mangolia on two wheels. Following this, they moved to Canada for work and saving some money, then continued their cycling trip from Alaska down to Patagonia. Their stories are fascinating to follow, their photography tremendous and their tips and advices for inexperienced bikepacking are invaluable.

After exploring Europe in 2018, Tales on Tyres has now settled down in the south of Germany, with the alps in their backyard. Whenever they have time, they take their bikes on overnighters or week-long trips to explore the mountains.

Favourite place/moment

We loved exploring South America by bike. Especially the landscape of the southern Andes is incredible and we can’t wait to go back one day and explore more.
